The publication series Erinnerungsarbeit. Universität der Künste Berlin focuses on the history of the UdK Berlin and its predecessor institutions with their protagonists, buildings, collections and impact on the city and society. The university's roles in the Weimar Republic, during National Socialism and in the post-war period are central. The first four issues of the publication series explore the topics of the lecture series Remembrance Work. On the Institutional History of the UdK Berlin in the winter semester 2022/2023, which explored the historiography of coming to terms with the past and institutional responsibility through interviews with researchers, tours, guided tours, talks, keynote speeches and panel discussions at nine different locations. The publication series takes up aspects of remembrance work and archive theory and takes a selected and detailed look at the history of institutions, art, music and architecture. UdK and external academics present their research on topics related to institutional memory work and discuss content and methods.

Memory work is bound to places, architectures and spaces. It is open-ended, rich in facets and part of the institutional self-image. The initial four issues will be continuously expanded. They are part of the reflection process for the 50th anniversary of the UdK/HdK 2025.

The series was created in the seminar “Erinnerungsarbeit UdK, eine Publikation”, lecturer: Anja Steinig; participants: Max Arff, Ira Göller, Anton Ladewig, Sebastian Richter. Campaigns class, Institute for Transmedia Design, Berlin University of the Arts.

Volume 3 focuses on the building complex Einsteinufer 43-53 and Hardenbergstraße 33, with essays by the authors Uwe Meyer-Brunswick, Paul Nolte, Clemens Rehm and Dietmar Schenk.
